Rooted in tradition. Strengthened through generations.

Every movement we teach carries the wisdom of masters before us.

With over 40 years of training in traditional Chinese and Indonesian martial arts, Master Chief Instructor Chaanztu Hajji Ismail represents the living bridge between past and present.

His studies span the Shaolin arts, Pencak Silat, Tai Chi, and other systems — each woven into BSFL’s unique curriculum of balance, focus, and discipline.

From the earliest days training under his mentors to decades of teaching and competing across the East Coast, he has preserved the integrity of these arts and dedicated his life to passing them forward to the next generation.

Willy Wetzel

A leading figure in Pencak Silat. Taught the cultural and combative essence of the Indonesian arts — balance between inner calm and outer expression.

Kai Sung

Specialist in internal training methods and traditional weaponry.
His teachings on flow and structure influence BSFL’s Tai Chi and internal power methods.

Dr. Fred Wu Min An

Contributed knowledge of energy pathways, alignment, and the medical aspects of martial training.

Sifu Richard Folmer began his martial arts journey at the age of 15, joining the Chaan Tzu lineage alongside his close high school friends. On his first day, he boldly asked to spar—right after a class on the lunge kick. With just that technique, he scored on eight students. It was a clear sign of his spirit and earned him the nickname: Richard the Lionheart. With over 20 years of continuous training under the same school, he brings a consistent and loyal spirit to his teaching. Sifu Folmer is known for his focus on strong fundamentals and his ability to break down complex forms into digestible, student-friendly segments.

Sifu Joseph Peeples began his journey with Chaan Tzu at the age of 15, becoming one of the first of a close-knit group of high school friends who would go on to train together for decades. With over 20 years of consistent study in traditional Chinese martial arts, his foundation is both deep and unwavering. A dedicated martial artist and lifelong friend of Sifu Rich, the two have journeyed through forms, sparring sessions, and countless school demonstrations side by side. Sifu Peeples is revered for his calm demeanor and sharp technique. He emphasizes internal strength, breathing, and the philosophical foundations of martial practice.
